Sleep as much as your body needs

The most of us do not get enough sleep. Sleep is the most natural form of relaxation. Sleep forces us to keep still, to get rest and relaxation, conserve energy by reducing needless movement, is time for tissue repair and brain restauration.
The brain only relaxes during the sleep and is the one that suffers the most if we don’t sleep enough. Extended sleeplessness leads to irreversible brain damage.
We are all different and need different amounts of sleep, just listen to your body!
You can lose weight sleeping!
Lack of sleep can disrupt the hormones controlling the appetite making you more hungry. The more sleep you get the better you feel when you are full.
Stay out as much as you can!
Exposure to daylight during the day helps us sleep better. The melatonin available in the body depends on the concentration of serotonin secreted in response to the daylight exposure. When you see less light, it signals your brain to produce melatonin to induce sleep. Watching monitors in the evening will confuse your body and loose connection to it.
Relax more and live longer!
People that sleep well have lower death rates from heart disease, cancer, stroke and suicide. In the Mediterranean or tropics countries there are much lower rates of coronary heart disease than in Northern Europe or North America – because of the life saving siestas.
If you can’t sleep don’t over-try – go read a book or meditate, but no stimulating activities.
Your body will be better prepared for sleep if you have a regular schedule in your life: exercise at the same time, eat at the same time, keep same sleeping hours, make it dark in the room, no electronics in the evening or stimulating activities etc.
Take the time to check if you are using your time in your best interest and shift priorities.
